Café Picnic

Café Picnic is located inside Glyptoteket, right next to the winter garden––Copenhagen’s exotic indoor oasis. Enjoy a brunch or lunch with a view of palms and statues. You have the option to purchase all dishes in half size at half price for children. Please note––you have to pay the entrance fee to Glyptoteket in order to visit the cafe. However, the museum is free on Tuesdays!

Café Væksthuset

In the middle of the Royal Veterinary and Agricultural University’s manicured garden you’ll find Café Væksthuset. The café’s building is actually an old experimental greenhouse, formerly used to grow cucumbers. It doesn’t get more magical, especially in the summer when everything blooms. The place offers brunch, and among other things, homemade sandwiches and refreshing beverages. There is seating both inside and outside.

Restaurant Väkst

Cofoco on Sankt Peders Stræde, also known as Restaurant Väkst, is a green oasis in the middle of the city, where guests eat with a view of a two-story greenhouse––growing the plants and vegetables used in the restaurant’s Nordic kitchen! Most of the furniture in the restaurant is built with recycled materials and wood, which adds to the unique ‘backyard’ experience.

Traktørstedet

Traktørstedet (The Tractor Place) is about a ten minute walk from Vestamager Metro station and a great way to enjoy the views of the natural reserve in Amager. Combine a day of open-air activities with an affordable café visit. The menu includes burgers, lunch platters, coffee, cake, and more––most of it made from local produce. For example, the beef for the burgers is from the cows grazing on the commons nearby.

 ØsterGRO

ØsterGRO is Denmark’s first city farm located on the roof top of an old vehicle auction house in Østerbro. The roof top farm produces all sorts of vegetables, along with their own eggs and honey. Plan your visit to the farm between 10-17 on Wednesdays, and you’ll be more than welcome to look around or even lend a hand. Afterward you and the kids can go downstairs and enjoy the harvest at GRO Spiseri. Note: The restaurant has special opening hours and you will need to buy a ticket in advance.

Café Sylten

Take a trip to historic Dragør––and experience the idyllic Danish summer cottage atmosphere at Café Sylten. There’s a great view of the sea and a little beach nearby where the kids can play. The place is especially recommended for it’s cozy Sankt Hans or fastelavn evenings. The café has brunch, lunch, or dinner––including a menu for the kids.

Orangeriet Kongens Have

In Copenhagen’s green oasis, The King’s Garden, you can visit Orangeriet and enjoy some traditional open-faced sandwiches (smørrebrød) for lunch or how about a delicious warm apple tarte tatin for dessert? The place is most suitable for children on Sundays, when the café serves classics like hot chocolate, apple juice, soda, and chocolate chip cookies. Drop by before or after a walk and take a break under one of the café parasols.

Morgenstedet

Take a trip to colorful Christiania and visit Morgenstedet, which, for more than 20 years, has been serving vegetarian meals. Their cozy patio offers peace, vitality, and lots of greenery in summer. The place is very child-friendly, with highchairs, changing tables, and child-friendly food.

Café Funder

Drop by Café Funder, which is located in one of the orange buildings by Frederiksberg Runddel. Enjoy your meal at a cozy café table under the trees and with a view of the flowers. A hidden oasis within Frederiksberg park, which simply oozes with peace and harmony. The menu contains sandwiches, salads, breakfast options, and in summer there’s a summer menu with tapas, pies, and other delicacies.

FORMAT

Check out the Danish Museum of Art & Design’s FORMAT Café on a summer day and enjoy a cold drink or something light to eat in the beautiful museum garden (Grønnegården). The garden is shielded from the traffic, which makes it a peaceful and safe spot for families to hang out.
