From exciting museums and child-friendly art exhibitions to fun-filled parks and fascinating landmarks, there are plenty of free things to do with kids on a family trip to Copenhagen.

Do your kids love animals? Then swing over to Remiseparken’s farm playground, where the kids can pet a goat, greet a pony, and smile at a pig – all three for free! There’s also a big playground with a cableway – and lots more.

Set your course for Krystalgade in the Inner City, where the splendid Main Library welcomes the city's treasures on the children's floor called LÆS. Here, children aged 0-12 can explore 10 activity zones, each of which enhances a child's language skills and love for reading. Stop by and experience the zones: Sound Jungle, Letter Source, Up & Down Forest, Word Mountain, Story Volcano, World Languages, Book Castle, Literature Street, Drawing Station, and Word Feast.

Give Glyptoteket a chance – it’s free for both adults and kids on Tuesdays. The kids can marvel at mummies, get stirred up by the impressive statues, and take a break under the glass dome in the exotic palm garden. Treat yourselves to something delicious from the café and then check out the roof top views!

Have you met Round Rie, Hans Hulehånd, and Stærke Storm? Thomas Dambo's impressive giants and trolls are hidden in beautiful spots in Denmark, and if you haven't found them yet, grab your family, enjoy the fresh air, and embark on an adventurous hunt. The trolls, made from recycled materials, are so large that you can climb on them - a huge experience for the kids.

Head to KU.BE - Frederiksberg's large cultural and movement center. Plenty of fun awaits here! Kids and their adults can explore balance, heights, and climbing skills on the play hill or try their hand at the indoor tube slide, climbing labyrinth, and all the other play installations around the building. For the little ones, there's a cushioned area, and for the brave ones, there's a climbing net with a great view. It's free to use, and when tummies start rumbling, KU.BE's cafe is a hit. Otherwise, there's also a large area where you can enjoy your packed lunch.

On weekdays, Cinemateket’s Børnebiffen (children's cinema) offers free films for the little ones, including major children’s hits, documentaries, and short films. Afterward, get some fresh air at the King’s Garden just across the street – where among other things, there’s a nice playground and a great view of Rosenborg Castle and the soldiers.

There are hours of fun to be had in Fælledparken! Take a trip to the Skater Park with your scooter or roller skates, experience the Traffic Playground, or try your skills at the Tower Playground. Furthermore, at the Serridslevvej part of the park by the playing fields, there are trampolines, swings, miniature playing fields, a basketball court, and much more.

Journey to Amager – and all the way to the legendary Flyvergrill (airplane grill). Get a fascinating view of the airplanes landing and taking off from the nearby Copenhagen Airport. The grill offers all sorts of Danish classics, plus there’s a playground right outside.

The Children’s Museum within the National Museum is a gem in central Copenhagen – and children get in for free (adults pay the regular entrance-fee). Time will fly once the kids are whisked off on a journey through the ages – including a Medieval castle, a Viking ship, and an old school class room.

Travel to green areas – the metro will take you straight to Amager Fælled – nature’s playground – where you’ll get impressive views and public fire pits for cozy evenings with bonfire bread. You could also jump on the train to Klampenborg and stroll through Dyrehaven (the Deer Park once used for royal hunts) and spot the herds – or go right next door – to Bakken (the World’s oldest amusement park), where the entry is free, but the rides aren’t!

Every day at 12 o'clock, you can witness it. The red-blue tin soldiers, marching in step with large bearskin hats and rifles, are a solemn sight that leaves children speechless when they encounter them up close for the first time.
